For city dwellers especially, it seems that we are constantly pressed for space. How can you keep a small home clean when it seems that not everything has a place?
It’s easier to stay organized and feel free when you’re not bogged down by extra stuff. Don’t use it? Doesn’t fit? Already have ten of them? Throw it out, donate it, sell it, doesn’t matter. Get. It. Gone.
Our minds often default to thinking that you put things on the floor, then you store things inside and on top of those things. You really just end up with cluttered space this way – it’s stuff on stuff. Think higher, not bigger. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your walls. Shelving and rods can do wonders. Everything from shoes to cleaning products can be organized vertically.
This has been the anthem of the tiny house trend. Everything has to serve more than one purpose. Your space may not require that everything in it multitask, but a little multitasking certainly wouldn’t hurt. This IKEA Malm bed gives you full permission to ditch your dresser, freeing up more space for yoga.
Things that aren’t used all the time need to take up the least amount of space possible. Make sure that items can be organized and stored in a way that is space efficient. This goes for both furniture and household items. If something can collapse or nest inside something else when it is not being used, it’s a go!
I have been a coffee drinker since I was seven years old. My grandpa introduced me to coffee. It was always our ritual that I would blow on his hot cup of coffee a little before he would have a sip so he didn’t burn his lips – which I truly believed in at the time.
I love coffee for many reasons. The memories, the long talks it fosters in cozy shops, the warm inviting smell, the robust taste, the way it wakes me up and allows me to be a decent person at my least favorite time of day… I love coffee. I love it poured over and percolated and Keuriged. I just love it. But I am giving coffee up. Why? Because I believe that I have found something better – for me at least.
I’ve been trying to figure out what to do about my coffee dilemma, which is that it has started bothering my stomach, probably because of the acidity. I used to drink several cups a day and now I can hardly finish a cup.
I was at White Rock Coffee – a local coffee shop – one day and remembered my friend Haleigh had ordered matcha there a few times. I had never tried it. Didn’t know what it was, but I wanted to. So I asked what it was and ordered it with soy. Matcha is basically a Japanese green tea latte. And it’s wonderful.
It didn’t bother my stomach. The energy spike is much easier, it’s slow and steady and you don’t crash. And if you know about the benefits of green tea, and love the taste, you might as well be sold.
I bought my first tin from Teavana last week and have saved so much money just because I’m not getting it from a coffee shop at $4 a cup.
Here’s my recipe for a small mug:
– ½ teaspoon matcha powder
– ½ cup water
– ½ cup frothed soy milk (you can manually froth in a French press)
– honey to taste
I first learned about bkr a couple years ago through iheartblogshop when they included bkr among the gifts to bloggers attending their workshop. bkr sells glass water bottles with a silicone wrap that comes in different colors that change with each season based on what colors are presented at fashion week. Mine is in Detox, although I will probably be picking up another in the near future. I walked into Neiman’s the other day to finally get my own and I love it. Glass? No BPA. Silicone? No breakage. Plus they’re beautiful.
A new year means out with the old and in with the new. Fortunately for us, retailers share this sentiment, which means it’s time to hit the sales. Check out my finds from Anthropologie’s sale. The Perfect Good Morning Smoothie
– 1 cup orange juice
– 1 cup frozen strawberries
– 1 banana
– half a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt
Combine all ingredients in blender and blend well. Depending on what I have in the kitchen, I’ll add chia seeds for extra protein or a couple handfuls of spinach to add a little veggie to my morning. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like spinach or chia seeds – you can’t even taste them. So this is a great way to get extra nutrition in if you have a hard time with veggies.
